It’s the biggest event on the annual Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) calendar – and this year, thanks to Isuzu UTE Australia (IUA) two Gold Coast clubs have mementos they’ll never forget.
‘The Aussies’ rivals the Commonwealth Games as a logistical exercise and sees Australia’s 314 Surf Life Saving Clubs come together to compete in over 480 beach and ocean events.
For this year’s Aussies, SLSA Major Partner Isuzu UTE Australia collaborated with the lifesaving community to create two huge murals, each approximately 2m x 4m, which will be donated to Queensland’s North Kirra and Tugun surf clubs respectively.
More than a piece of art, each mural was produced by combining over 100 separate canvasses to create a cohesive whole. Individual paintings were contributed by competitors, attendees, and the general public.
“It was a lot of fun to see everyone get involved at ‘The Aussies’ create these incredible pieces,” said IUA Managing Director, Mr. Junta Matsui.
“Having been a major partner with Surf Life Saving Australia since 2021, it’s an honour to help with their mission – and to celebrate our relationship, and this wonderful event, with these murals.”
Craig Lowns, President of North Kirra Surf Life Saving Club, thanked Surf Life Saving Australia and Isuzu UTE Australia for their support. “We are grateful that we can support such a large event as a host club, and thank Isuzu UTE Australia for their support of the activation,” said Lowns.
“The mural shows IUA’s dedication to our movement, and we are excited to show the artwork that the community has delivered in support of this event. We can't wait to have this mural of these Championships on our walls.”
The murals were completed over consecutive weekends during ‘The Aussies’, which were held from 29 March – 6 April. IUA engaged Be Challenged to facilitate the activity.
